Vector graphics consist of mathematical curves and paths rather than individual pixels. This means they can be scaled to any size—large or small—without losing quality—from a business card logo to a trade show display.
A raster image, on the other hand—such as a .jpg—cannot be enlarged without significant loss of quality.
Typical vector formats include SVG (for the web), EPS, and PDF (for print). Logos should always be provided as vector files, otherwise they will appear blurry when scaled up. Another advantage of SVG files on the web is their size—they’re actually quite small!
