A theme determines the visual appearance of a WordPress website—layout, typography, colors, and structure. There are free themes in the WordPress directory and premium themes from third-party providers. A good theme is lean (no bloated code), regularly updated, and customizable. Many themes come with their own page builder—which is convenient in the short term but leads to dependencies in the long run. For professional projects, we recommend a lean base theme like Astra combined with a child theme for customizations.
