Responsive design means that a website automatically adapts its layout to the screen size of the device—whether it’s a smartphone, tablet, or desktop. Technically, this is achieved using flexible CSS grids and what are known as media queries. Since Google switched to mobile-first indexing, responsive design is no longer an optional extra but a basic requirement for good rankings. A non-responsive website loses both visitors and visibility in search results.
