What is the Gutenberg Editor?
The Gutenberg Editor is WordPress’s default page editor. It was introduced in 2018 with WordPress 5.0 and replaced the classic TinyMCE editor. The name pays homage to Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press.
Gutenberg uses a block-based approach: Each content element—a paragraph, an image, a table, a button—is a standalone block that can be moved, formatted, and configured independently. This makes page editing visual and intuitive, without requiring any programming knowledge.

Compared to page builders like Elementor or WPBakery, Gutenberg generates cleaner HTML code, doesn’t load any additional JavaScript libraries, and has a significantly smaller impact on load times. This makes it the better choice for anyone who values page speed and maintainability.
