A domain is the address of a website on the Internet—for example, engelhardt-medien.de. It consists of the actual name (engelhardt-medien) and the top-level domain (.de, .com, .org). Domains are leased from a domain registrar—usually on an annual basis. The domain is independent of hosting and the website itself: You can have your domain with a different provider than your hosting provider. When moving your site, the domain must be correctly redirected to the new server. Emails are always tied to a domain.
Email addresses are also tied to a domain—a professional email address like info@engelhardt-medien.de requires that you own or rent the corresponding domain.
