The alt text (alternative attribute) is a text description associated with an image in the HTML code. It serves two purposes:
- First, it makes images readable by search engines—Google can’t see images, only the alt text.
- Second, it promotes accessibility: screen readers for visually impaired users read the alt text aloud.
A good alt text describes the image briefly and precisely—without keyword stuffing.
